Protecting Your Teeth When Playing Contact Sports

Protecting your teeth is important no matter what you are doing. However, if you are engaged in a contact sport such as football, it is absolutely crucial. Here at Charlotte Emergency Dental, we are equipped to help you in the event of a dental emergency. You can help decrease your chances of experiencing a dental emergency by taking some basic precautionary measures.

Using a Mouth Guard

Protecting Your Teeth When Playing Contact SportsOne of the easiest—and yet most effective—things you can do is use a mouth guard made of soft and yet resilient material. These “boil and bite” mouth guards are sold in stores for a few dollars, yet they are invaluable when it comes to protecting your teeth.

Just follow the instructions on the package to ensure a proper fit, and wear the mouth guard while you are playing your sport. It is important that you get the correct size of mouth guard for a few reasons: if it’s too big, you’ll likely tire of wearing it and will be tempted to leave it out. If it’s too small, you may very well find that the protection it provides is inadequate.

Protecting Your Teeth is Common Sense

Of all the injuries that you can experience when playing contact sports, injuries to your teeth are among the most preventable. Given how expensive emergency dental work can be, and given how easy (and affordable) it is to protect your teeth, it just makes sense to take the necessary steps to ensure your teeth are protected.

If you do experience a dental emergency, we are here to help. We have extensive experience in all types of dental emergencies, and we can help get you on the road to recovery and get your smile back the way it should be. At Charlotte Emergency Dentistry, we are here to help, so give us a call any time you need our services!
